The term "sneaker" was coined three years later, around 1920, by advertising executive Henry Nelson McKinney. In Europe, the term became established much later, only becoming common at the end of the 90s. Originally designed as sports shoes, they quickly gained popularity among athletes and fashion enthusiasts. Their minimalist design and comfortable fit made them a staple of casual fashion. In recent decades, low-top sneakers have made their way from sports fields to the streets and runways of the world, and today are indispensable all-round shoes for young and old alike.
