Fastening Systems in Children's Shoes – Pros & Cons

When buying children's shoes, parents often face the challenge of finding a well-fitting shoe with the right closure system. Because not only comfort, but also safety and suitability for everyday use play a decisive role. In this post, we take a look at different closure systems and discuss their advantages and disadvantages.

BOA System

The BOA system is rightly considered one of the best closure systems for children's shoes currently available. Its ease of use and the ability to precisely adjust the shoe make it an excellent choice. The even distribution of pressure or tension over a large area prevents uncomfortable pressure points on the foot. Another advantage is safety, as the shoe sits securely and firmly while being worn.
The only disadvantage is that children learn to tie their shoes later.

Elastic Laces + Velcro Fastener

In our opinion, pure elastic laces are unsuitable for children's shoes. Either the lace tension is so high that the shoe holds well on the foot, but the child has great difficulty putting it on and taking it off – or putting it on and taking it off works, but the hold and thus the fit suffer. That's why we rely on the combination of elastic laces with a Velcro fastener.
This combination offers a good balance between hold and comfort. The elastic laces ensure that the shoe fits snugly on the foot, while the Velcro fastener allows for easy handling when putting on and taking off.

Double Velcro Fastener

Although the double-row Velcro fastener is easy to use, it is rarely used in our collection. Our target group prefers a more modern look, which is not always compatible with the double Velcro fastener. Nevertheless, this closure system offers a quick and uncomplicated way to open and close the shoe.

Lacing

Classic lacing is a timeless option that allows children of a certain age to tie their own shoes. This promotes independence and gives them a sense of personal responsibility. With VADO shoes with laces, children can express their individual style and at the same time learn to take care of their own needs.

Overall, there are therefore various closure systems for children's shoes, each with its advantages and disadvantages. Ultimately, the choice of the right system should depend on the individual needs of the child and personal preferences. At VADO, we strive to offer a variety of closure options to ensure that every shoe fits its little wearer perfectly.
